Limerick Cycle to Lourdes raises over €52,000 for 2 local charities.

A group of people from Limerick and surrounds came together to organise a charity cycle from Nantes to Lourdes in June 2016 to coincide with the Limerick Diocesan pilgrimage. The 800km cycle took place from the 14th to 20th June from Nantes to Lourdes with a team of 18 cyclists and 6 back-up personnel.

cliona-logosEach member of the group raised significant funds for the two designated charities, Limerick Lourdes Invalid Fund and Cliona’s Foundation.

Speaking to Global Limerick, director Finbarr Brougham said:

“Our thanks go out especially to our families, friends and sponsors who supported this idea. I would like to thank all the people who turned up and contributed to our fund raisers either by their monetary contributions, their time or their support. To the Back up team , Logistics and Medical teams who are gave of their time and energy in supporting the young and not so young cyclists!….thank you also”.


The Cycle team presenting the cheques for €26,328 each.

“We were delighted to have Keith Duffy of Boyzone fame with us for the full cycle. Keith proved to be a really strong cyclist and was a great ambassador and contributor to the overall project.”.

Two cheques of €26,328 each were presented to the Limerick Lourdes Invalid Fund and to Cliona’s Foundation at a special function in Bobby Byrnes, Limerick City on 29th September 2016.
