Launched to a very positive reception in Ireland, TravelWise is the new free smartphone app designed to help Irish citizens stay safe and informed while travelling, living or working overseas. The app provides users with the latest travel advice for over 200 countries and contact information for Ireland’s global Embassy network – and all of this “in your pocket”.
The Department wanted to be innovative in how it provides travel advice and consular information to our citizens abroad. Developed with user-experience in mind, the app offers a new simple facility for travel registration with the local Embassy, a new intuitive four-tier security rating scale, and alerts for destinations of your choice.
The alert facility is a new service offered by the Department, where users can favourite the country they live in or are travelling to, to get all relevant security updates from the Department instantly via push notifications.
All content, once downloaded, is available offline, including key emergency contact details – without the need for a data connection abroad and without incurring roaming charges.
