Fleadh in Kilfinane.
Plans are well underway in preparation for this year’s Fleadh Cheoil Luimnígh which is being held in the town of Kilfinane from the 1st to 5th June, 2017.
Hosted by the local Comhaltas branch, Ballyhoura CCE and the Limerick County Board, this is a first for this beautiful rural town. Located in a picturesque mountain range, the town has been invigorated in recent years through the creation of a number of high profile festivals and events.
The Fleadh Cheoil has been a long established Comhaltas event, and acts as a pathway to competing in the Munster Final and onto the prestigious traditional event of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann.
Limerick residents must compete within their county, which in turn will lead the town of Kilfinane hosting a large number of competitors and their families over the course of the weekend.
The programme of events for the weekend, which was being launched this week involves an opening night of a Hup na Houra concert, featuring a return of the fantastic team of Liam Flanagan, Caoimhin O’Fheargail and Derek Hickey and amazing dance choreographed by Ciara Flanagan.
A seisiún trail each night in various pubs in the town, will have fantastic traditional music and is attracting musicians from all over Munster.
Ballyhoura CCE are working with the Ballyhoura Artisan Food Park in Kilfinane to develop a street market over the weekend and family friendly events will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday night’s line up will feature North Cregg, who will reform for a great night’s entertainment providing lively music and song. Along with an outdoor Cheilí Mór and seisiun trail, Kilfinane is set to be a Trad Haven on Saturday night.
On street entertainment, outdoor and historical events, are planned for Sunday as well as more great music, song and dance events. The weekend will close with gentle tunes to end a lively weekend on bank holiday Monday with an Art workshop being held during the day.
The role of Ballyhoura CCE, along with the Limerick County Board, is to facilitate these competitions. Ballyhoura CCE are committed to providing a truly great Fleadh experience with trad events all weekend and fun family activities for everyone.
Ballyhoura CCE was established in 2015 by a dedicated group of 11 individuals with the aim of promoting the traditional arts in the locality.
